Play2Learn

Children learn best when playing. Through play, children learn how to communicate and interact with others. They practice language, how to think symbolically, how to express themselves, and so much more.

Play2Learn Kits guide children to explore, reflect, and discover as they play with toys! Each toy kit includes an activity sheet that shares the skills of that toy, a tip or two for learning in everyday life, and conversation and interaction suggestions for caregivers.

These toy kits come in hanging bags or backpacks similar to the Grab & Go packs. See Play2Learn Kits in our online catalog here.

Locations that have Play2Learn Kits for checkout include the following:

  • Becker,
  • Belgrade,
  • Buffalo,
  • Eagle Bend,
  • Elk River,
  • Little Falls,
  • Long Prairie,
  • Paynesville,
  • Royalton,
  • St. Michael,
  • Sauk Centre,
  • and Staples.

Some of these locations also offer in-library-use kits, too.

Each kit is based on a theme or skill, such as balancing stones, screw driver board, musical instruments, magnetic fishing, and lacing beads. The checkout period is one week, similar to Lucky Day.

Donations fund these kits. Thank you to the generous donors of the library (who gave to Locally Growin') that made these possible! Paynesville Library supporter, Bill Spooner of the Paynesville Lions Club, shared the toy library idea with library staff and helped us make it a reality. Thank you to Bill Spooner and the Paynesville Lions for partnering with us on the launch of Play2Learn kits, which have now spread to other branches within the Great River Regional Library system.
