How much does it cost to get a library card?
Library cards are free to Minnesota residents.
If you lose your card or if it is stolen, you will need to pay $1 for a replacement.

Can I use a card from another state's library to check out library materials?
Library cards from out-of-state cannot be used at Great River Regional Library. However, a non-resident card may be purchased (borrower limits may apply). This card is valid for three months and costs $7.50. The card may be renewed for three month increments with additional fees of $7.50 per renewal.
Where can I use my library card?
You can use the same GRRL library card at any of our 33 locations. In addition, your library card provides you with access to the free digital library.
You can use your eCard for online access to digital materials (digital library & databases). You may upgrade to a full access card at any time by visiting one of our staffed locations and providing proof of identity and address.
Can I use a card from another Minnesota library to check out library materials?
If you have a Great River River Regional Library card, it can be used at any of our 33 locations to check out physical items and access many of GRRL's digital resources.
How do I renew my library card?
It's easy to renew your library card! You can
- Stop in at any Great River Regional Library location,
- Use the online renewal form (include your full barcode without spaces),
- Call your local library.
Renewing your library card is free, although adult patrons must pay any fines/fees in full before renewing their cards
How can I update my address or other information on my account?
Please use the Library Card Renewal/Update form. Staff will update the account as soon as possible.
You can also update information on your account in person at any Great River Regional Library. Some updates can be made over the phone or by using the online contact form.
Legal name changes should be completed in-person at one of our staffed locations. Please bring valid identity card or similar document for legal name changes.
What if my library card is lost or stolen?
Please immediately report a lost or stolen library card so that no one is able to use your card to check out materials in your name. You can contact any of our locations in person or by phone, or email us using the online contact form.
