Library Asks High $5 Donors to Go for the Green!

St. Cloud, MN, March 2016: The Great River Regional Library’s annual High $5 fundraising campaign is underway, with a new feature.

Donors of $5 or more to the library’s entry-level fundraiser are receiving a lime green wristband imprinted with “I AM A LIBRARY SUPPORTER.”

Each March, the 32-branch Great River Regional Library (GRRL) system invites area residents to donate $5 toward the cost of providing library services. Most of the library’s funding is provided by the six counties in which it operates: Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright. High $5 funds go toward activities that are beyond basic needs, according to Julie Henne, the library’s associate director for public relations.

“Fifty percent of donations stay local. A patron who donates $5 will see half spent locally on things such as programming and reading incentives, or even furnishings such as comfortable seating. The other $2.50 is put into the general fund that pays for books and materials, technology, and staffing that benefits the entire region.”

Henne is hoping the green wristband will encourage new donors to come forward. “Maybe if you see your friend wearing one of our wristbands it will encourage you to step up. If each of our users donated $5, we would have enough money to make some significant additions to our services.”

Individuals wishing to make a High $5 donation and pick up a wristband may stop by their closest GRRL branch library during March. The library also accepts donations online at griver.org on its Support the Library page, where patrons may indicate a branch location via an Instructions/Comments line.

Great River Regional Library (GRRL) provides library services at 32 public libraries in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. It provides Central Minnesota residents with nearly 1 million books, CDs and DVDs, 250 public computers, programming and information services.
