Great River Regional Library and City of Sartell Announce Pilot Project
SARTELL, Minn. (May 18, 2017) – Great River Regional Library (GRRL) and the City of Sartell are pleased to announce a pilot project that will bring library services directly to the new Sartell Community Center.
This project is an enhancement to regional library services already used by Sartell residents through GRRL branch libraries in other cities.
The approved pilot project is in the form of a locker system, a payment kiosk and book-drop. Patrons will be able to use the remote system to connect with the Great River collection and pick up their requested materials, return materials that are due, renew existing checked-out materials and make payments on any fines they may have.
Sartell Mayor Sarah Jane Nicoll praised the innovative project and partnership as “the opportunity to do something different here and still provide a really great service for our community.”
GRRL administration and Sartell City representatives have been working together to develop an alternative library service to be housed in the Sartell Community Center since 2015.
The system provided by Bibliotheca + 3M is the first in the state of Minnesota. The equipment has real-time communication with the GRRL library management system which results in a simplified process and more accurate reporting of activity. It also comes with a friendly touch-screen interface for patrons to use when accessing the system.
GRRL Executive Director Karen Pundsack said, “This is an exciting step for Great River to offer an extension of library service to our residents.”
The library locker system will be open during the community center’s hours of operation to provide access to GRRL materials in a convenient location.
