TeenTober & Sticker Contest Winner

This October, the Great River Regional Library (GRRL) is participating in the Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YALSA) annual TeenTober celebration. Developed by YALSA, this month-long event strives to raise awareness of the importance of year-round teen services and connect teens with services and materials provided by their local institutions that will help them develop new skills and fuel their passions. TeenTober merges YALSA’s successful and long-standing Teen Tech Week™ and Teen Read Week™ initiatives into one program to celebrate teen services in libraries. GRRL invites teens to explore their local library to see what fits their interests.

Since October marks TeenTober, we thought this was a perfect time to announce the winner of our first-ever Teen Sticker Design Contest! In July, GRRL welcomed teen artists to submit sticker designs. The artwork was judged based on creativity, design, and how well it fits a library theme. We received 94 submissions from across the GRRL service area. Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest! Staff voted on the winning design. Since it was challenging to decide on just one design, we will have vinyl stickers made of the winner and runner-up designs, available at all GRRL locations, while supplies last.

Congratulations to our Teen Sticker Design Contest winner, Jasmin, age 13, whose home library is the St. Cloud Public Library! Jasmin’s design is a bookworm, wrapped up in a sweater, wearing eyeglasses, while reading amongst stacks of books.

Our first runner-up is Haidyn, age 15, whose home library is the Monticello Public Library. Haidyn’s design is of a dragon perched on top of a stack of books, with words above that state, “I’m a book dragon, not a worm!”

Our second runner-up is Cadence, age 17, whose home library is the St. Michael Public Library. Cadence’s design says, “ADVENTURE IS CLOSER THAN YOU THINK,” with a person’s action book coming to life.
