Howard Lake Library Dedication Event

The Howard Lake Public Library is hosting a library dedication ceremony, and the entire Howard Lake community is invited to attend on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The event will occur at the new location, 817 8th Avenue, and the dedication ceremony will begin at 7:00 p.m.

The new, net-zero library opened in its new location on August 12 at 817 8th Avenue. This monumental shift from its previous location at 617 6th Avenue was a true community effort. The Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted football team, among many other volunteers, played a crucial role in the move. The planning and construction involved local interests as well as regional and statewide ones, including the City of Howard Lake, Great River Regional Library (GRRL), the state of Minnesota, USDA Rural Development, and the Howard Lake Friends of the Library. This collaborative effort is a testament to the community's strength and unity. Also, it's important to note that Howard Lake City Administrator Nick Haggenmiller was a driving force behind this project's coming to fruition.

Dedication ceremony guests include Howard Lake Mayor Pete Zimmerman, building architects BKV Group, building construction company CGI, a Friends of the Library member, and GRRL Executive Director Karen Pundsack. Everyone is invited to join the celebration by visiting the new building, watching the plaque unveiling during the dedication ceremony, and enjoying refreshments and desserts provided by the Friends of the Howard Lake Public Library.

Through efforts by library staff, users will benefit from a refreshed collection of books and other materials. About 1,200 new books were sent to Howard Lake to be showcased on their new bookshelves. These latest additions have sparked excitement among library users eager to explore the brand-new collection.
