Author Colin Mustful to Visit Sherburne History Center
Colin Mustful, author of several novels of historic fiction, will speak at the Sherburne History Center on Saturday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. He will be presenting his most recent book, Resisting Removal, an exploration of the events surrounding the Lake Superior Ojibwe during the years 1850 and 1855. In a series of broken promises and political machinations, the relocation of Lake Superior Ojibwe resulted in the deaths of about 400 people.
Mustful authored three other novels, all of them exploring the relationships between Minnesota settlers and Native American groups. All his books are set in the early settlement history of Minnesota, leading up to and including the Dakota uprising. He writes with a unique perspective on the relationships during this time frame. Recent reviews described Resisting Removal as, “talented historical storytelling at its finest.”
The program scheduled for Saturday is co-sponsored by the Sherburne History Center and the Becker Public Library and made possible by a grant from the Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund.
