GRRL Databases Cheat Sheet

  • GRRL’s online databases include articles from newspapers, magazines, professional journals, online encyclopedias, and more. You can access these databases at www.griver.org.
  • Click on the link for “Databases” found in the left hand margin of our home page.
  • You may be prompted to enter your GRRL barcode number and PIN.
  • On this page, you can search many databases at once by clicking in the “Select All” box. Then type in your search term in the box, choose the type of search from the drop down menu (“subject” for example) and click on “search.” You can choose a smaller number of databases to search by clicking on the box in front of the databases you want. You can also search for a specific journal title and see which databases include that title by choosing “search by magazine title.”

You may want to choose a specific database to search in order to focus your results. To do this, find the database you want in the alphabetical list of titles and click on it. A new window will open for that database and you can begin searching.

Many individual databases have basic search and advanced search options. Using Advanced Search, the words AND, OR and NOT can be used to refine the search further. You may also be able to use limiters such as full text results, publication type, or date ranges.

Some databases allow you to print, email or export articles for later use. GRRL databases can be used anywhere you have access to the internet, as long as you have your library card number to log in.
