Kimball Library Manager to Take Over Annandale Branch

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The new Branch Manager of the Annandale Area Public Library will be a familiar face to library patrons who have visited the Kimball Public Library.

Carla Asfeld, who has managed the Kimball Public Library since 1996, will manage both Kimball and Annandale libraries effective April 30, 2009. Her first day working at the Annandale location will be May 5. The Annandale and Kimball libraries are both part of the 32-branch Great River Regional Library (GRRL) system.

Asfeld will take over from long-term Annandale manager Sandy Otto, who is retiring from library work after nearly 33 years. Asfeld is a native of the area. She is originally from Watkins and taught in St. Anthony’s Elementary School in Watkins before becoming the Kimball branch manager. Since then, she has established a high level of rapport with the local community and library Friends group, according to GRRL regional supervisor Mic Golden. “Carla’s been successful in Kimball and I’m sure she will be successful in Annandale,” Golden said.

This is the first time that management of two GRRL branches has been consolidated under one Branch Manager.

“It’s a pilot project for the system,” said GRRL Director Kirsty Smith. “We are adding more than 20 staff hours between the two libraries in customer service positions, and we’re able to do that because we have reduced expenses by having just one manager.”

Asfeld said she is excited about the challenge of taking on the Annandale location. “I’ve been at Kimball for 13 years. It’s time that I take on something new.”
