Subject:  9/11 Memorial Exhibit at the Library

This September 11th marks the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, and libraries are providing memorials to learn and reflect.

Great River Regional Library branches in Annandale, Kimball, Little Falls, St. Cloud, St. Michael, and Waite Park are hosting a 9/11 Memorial exhibit during the month of September. The Memorial exhibit is a series of posters with images and details from the 9/11 Memorial & Museum (911memorial.org).

The purpose of the 9/11 Memorial exhibit is for our communities to remember and reflect on this tragedy in United States history. Nancy Bunting, St. Michael Library Services Coordinator, explains, “The 9/11 Memorial is aimed at educating our children and grandchildren so that they will know the horror, bravery and sacrifice this nation went through, with the hopes they will help us work for a better world.”

This is a milestone year and is more important than ever to recall the events that took place in New York City, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Carla Asfeld, Library Services Coordinator of Annandale and Kimball, explains why this is so important: “It has been twenty years since these attacks occurred. Those that were alive to witness this event will never forget, but all the children in grades K-12 have no such memory. The poster exhibit provided by the 9/11 Memorial and Museum are a beautiful way to share and educate.”

Great River Regional Library’s vision is inspiring Central Minnesota to shape the future through exploration, knowledge, and connection. This exhibit aligns with the library’s vision and gives our community the opportunity to learn more. Michelle Goebel, Waite Park Library Services Coordinator, explains why they chose to hold the memorial exhibit by saying, “We like having art shown in our branch. We often display works of art from local artists, and this display seemed very appropriate at this time.”

Most importantly, we want to take the time to honor our nation’s heroes. Cindy Bruggenthies, Little Falls Library Services Coordinator, shares, “We want to honor the policemen and women, firefighters, first responders, volunteers, people on flight 93, all those killed that day, all who helped then and in the days following and all the soldiers who fought in the subsequent War on Terror and those who lost their lives.  We want to remember that our lives were changed that day.  Little Falls is a military community and we honor our servicemen and women.”

In each of these six library locations, the 9/11 Memorial exhibit is on display in the main area and is easily accessible to anyone coming into the library. The library encourages your family to take advantage of this learning opportunity. Visit the exhibit during library open hours. See your library hours at https://griver.org/locations or call the library hotline at 1-833-GET-GRRL (1-833-438-4775).

Great River Regional Library (GRRL) provides library services at 32 public libraries and one to-go system in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. GRRL2GO is a locker system that allows you to pick up items at the Sartell Community Center.
