National Library Week is April 7th - 13th, 2024
April 7-13, 2024, is National Library Week, a time to highlight the essential role libraries, librarians, and library staff play in transforming lives and strengthening communities.
Celebrations during National Library Week
- Monday, April 8: Right to Read Day is a National Day of Action in support of the right to read. The State of America's Libraries Report is released, including Top Ten Most Challenged Books of 2023.
- Tuesday, April 9: National Library Workers Day, a day for library staff, users, administrators, and Friends groups to recognize the valuable contributions made by all library workers.
- How do you show your appreciation for your local library staff? Take the time to thank them for their help and all they do for your community!
- Want to make a special acknowledgment to a library worker that has helped you? Nominate stellar library staff here.
- Wednesday, April 10: National Library Outreach Day, an opportunity for library advocates to make their support known—through thanking library staff, writing a letter or e-mail to their libraries, or voicing their support to the community leaders.
- Connect with us on social media using #LibraryOutreachDay.
- Thursday, April 11: Take Action for Libraries Day, a day to rally advocates to support libraries.
- Advocate for your library by reaching out to your personal representatives to let them know how you value library services. There are email templates and call scripts on the Minnesota Library Advocacy page to help you get started. You can find your representatives and their contact information on the Minnesota Legislative website here.
