Public Input Sought For Library's Strategic Plan

St. Cloud, MN, October 2012 -  Great River Regional Library (GRRL) is seeking public input for strategic planning purposes.

All members of the public, library users and non-users, are invited to a general public input session at the Little Falls Carnegie Library on Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 2 p.m. GRRL Director Kirsty Smith will be at the library to receive suggestions and opinions from the public about current and future services. Those suggestions will be included in discussions and planning by the library’s administration to help chart GRRL’s path for the next nine years.

GRRL provides public library services at 32 locations in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. As a public library system receiving support from the State of Minnesota, GRRL is required to file a strategic plan with the Department of Education, State Library Services. The plan includes goals for three years and has an outlook of nine years. The strategic plan being developed is for 2013-2015.

“Although many library services remain stable, the social forces affecting libraries change over time,” said Julie Henne, GRRL’s communications and fund development coordinator. “In recent years we’ve been increasingly focused on children’s literacy and on information technology, helping ensure that all our users have access to the Internet. The public input sessions will be used to help determine if the library needs to adjust its path or if other information needs should be prioritized.”

The Little Falls Carnegie Library is one of three sites at which public input will be gathered. The others are the Monticello Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., and St. Cloud Public Library on Nov. 9 at 2 p.m.

Great River Regional Library (GRRL) provides library services at 32 public libraries in Benton, Morrison, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd and Wright Counties. It provides Central Minnesota residents with nearly 1 million books, CDs and DVDs, 250 public computers, programming and information services.
