October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so we recognize and respect the struggles of cancer patients, and their friends and family, with these resources. May they bring some hope and understanding.

David Servan-Schreiber
Description: This new edition addresses current developments in cancer research and offers more tips on how people living with cancer can fight it and how healthy people can prevent it. The new edition includes: the latest research on anticancer foods, including new alternatives to sugar and cautions about some that are now on the market; new information about how vitamin D strengthens the immune system; warnings about common food contaminants that have recently been proven to contribute to cancer progression; a new chapter on mind-body approaches to stress reduction, with recent studies that show how our reactions to stress can interfere with natural defenses and how friendships can support healing in ways never before understood; a groundbreaking study showing that lifestyle modification reduces mortality for breast cancer by an astounding 68 percent after completion of treatment; and new supporting evidence for the entire Anticancer program.--From publisher description.

Kristi Funk
Description: "A comprehensive guide to total breast health from the go-to breast care expert for Good Morning America and The Doctors. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer over the course of their lives, and breast cancer is the #1 killer of women ages 20-59. But did you know that only 15 percent of those diagnosed have a single relative with breast cancer? For most of us, family history and genetics do not determine who gets breast cancer--we do! You have power over this disease. In BREASTS: The Owner's Manual, Dr. Kristi Funk shows you how to harness that power. This practical guide equips women with the most up-to-date tools for cancer prevention and outlines a compassionate roadmap for treatment options. Kristi Funk, MD, is a Board-certified breast cancer surgeon based in Los Angeles and co-founder of the Pink Lotus Breast Center, which has transformed the delivery of breast healthcare in America. Long before Dr. Funk performed Angelina Jolie's widely-discussed double prophylactic mastectomy, Dr. Funk strategized with her about the most effective and honest way to communicate her decision to the world. Their announcement led to a permanent increase in preventive testing for the BRCA gene. Now, Dr. Funk takes the broader conversation about total breast health to women everywhere with this straight-talking guide. Her mission is to educate as many women as possible about what they can do to stop breast cancer before it starts. Every year, 1 million cases of breast cancer are diagnosed globally, with more than 240,000 in the US alone. BREASTS: The Owner's Manual will help many women avoid this unwelcome journey and will provide wisdom and practical advice for those already walking this challenging path"-- Provided by publisher.

Paul Kalanithi, A. Verghese, Sunil Malhotra, Cassandra Campbell
Description: At the age of thirty-six, on the verge of completing a decade's worth of training as a neurosurgeon, Paul Kalanithi was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. One day he was a doctor making a living treating the dying, and the next he was a patient struggling to live. Just like that, the future he and his wife had imagined evaporated. When Breath Becomes Air, which features a Foreword by Dr. Abraham Verghese and an Epilogue by Kalanithi's wife, Lucy, chronicles Kalanithi's transformation from a naïve medical student 'possessed, ' as he wrote, 'by the question of what, given that all organisms die, makes a virtuous and meaningful life' into a young neurosurgeon at Stanford, guiding patients toward a deeper understanding of death and illness, and finally into a patient and a new father to a baby girl, confronting his own mortality.
