Lucky Alissa Tesmer registered for a new library card at Delano Public Library in September and received an Apple iPad. In all, three Great River Regional Library cardholders received iPads as part of the Library Card Sign-up Month promotion during September. To be eligible for a prize, you had to be either a new cardholder or sponsor a new cardholder. The winners could come from any of the library system's 32 branch locations. There is always a program going on at the Upsala Public Library! Artists, authors, speakers and programs for kids are scheduled throughout the month, and passive or do-it-yourself programs are also available. Try your hand at a craft project or Guess The Shredded Book. The first week of both January and February 2017, you'll find a shredded book in a large plastic jar at the library. Wear your favorite (ugly or otherwise) holiday sweater and join us Saturday, Dec. 10 for  an hour of cookie decorating at the Paynesville Public Library. We'll have sweater-shaped sugar cookies  provided, along with frosting and equipment. There was a fire truck outside the St. Cloud Public Library on Nov. 15, along with a SWAT vehicle, tow truck and police squad car. But it was a good day! Local firefighters and law enforcement officers, as well as city employees, helped the library celebrate its reopening at a Welcome Back event. Join us Wednesday, Nov. 23, 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. (the day before Thanksgiving) for a play session for babies and toddlers! We'll have lots of toys and activities, including a ball-crawl pool, puzzles, blocks, building toys and even a little, working electric piano keyboard for toddlers to play with and explore. We'll also have coffee for the parents, and treats for everyone. For ages 0-6. No registration necessary.

The St. Cloud Public Library is reopening its doors to full public service beginning Thursday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. The library will resume operating with its usual schedule. Both levels of the building will be open, and public computers and study rooms will be available. The online link to reserve meeting rooms will be reactivated on the library’s website, griver.org. November is Alzheimer Awareness month. Join Tami Kolbinger in an informal, 45 minute presentation at the Becker Public Library that includes information on dementia, concentrating on communication and some of the "do's and don'ts" in dealing with people with dementia. In celebration of the upcoming movie release Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, based on the book by J. K. Rowling, depicting the well-known wizarding world before the time of Harry Potter, the Richmond branch of GRRL has become a wizarding wonderland.
