GRRL~Upsala! A Place for Kids to Play! Throughout 2011, staff at the Upsala Public Library collected a variety of educational toys for families who frequent the branch. From alphabet floor tiles to a ball cage to cardboard building blocks, toys are available for Upsala area kids who visit the library for books, movies and fun! Friends of the Upsala Public Library, together with Sytek Communications, hung new building signs for Great River Regional Library (GRRL) - Upsala on Dec. 8, 2011. Graphic designer Bernadette Stephenson from GRRL's communications and fund development department designed the signage including a QR code on the street level sign. Pumpkin carver Shawn Sayre and his wife Megan (left front and back) recently donated two fantastically carved pumpkins to the Great River Regional Library in Upsala. Upsala Branch Assistant Jan Gerth (right) accepted the man-eating pumpkin with a leg sticking out of its jaws, and Shawn held a pumpkin precision carved with the GRRL logo. It took a year of collecting, but Great River Regional Library ~Upsala handed out 75 free books to area residents during the annual UFFDA community celebration parade on Saturday, Aug. 13. Branch Manager Wanda Erickson had collected the books over the course of a year by writing for publishers' free give-aways advertised in trade publications. Community leaders and library supporters met at the Upsala Public Library on Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, to celebrate the library’s Grand Opening in a new space. The library remains in the same building on Main Street, but it is now in a larger room with more space for programming. It has also been reorganized and feels more welcoming.
