Three young people wrote 32-word stories after viewing the photographic writing prompt in December. Winners at GRRL~Upsala received a prize from the Friends of the Upsala Public Library for their efforts. Pictured are Josie and Tucker Hollermann. Not pictured is Isabelle Leners. Congratulations!

The "Snappy Elmdalers" visited the Upsala Library recently to proudly hang their 4-H club banner! This annual event showcases club members' design talents. Ruby (pictured) is definitely not the only Upsalian who enjoyed the 6th Annual "Summer Concert in the Park!" In fact, she was one of over 200 community members who turned up on Friday, Aug. 11. Friends of the Upsala Public Library have graciously funded three book kits for Great River Regional Library. The kits are Breaking Stalin’s Nose by Eugene Yelchin, The Girl From the Train by Irma Joubert and Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys. In honor of Short Story Writing Month, 22 local 'authors' gave us their best short, short story based on the picture prompt. GRRL is made up of 32 libraries, so 32 seemed the perfect number of words to give the best take on the picture prompt! Each November, the Snappy Elmdalers 4H Club hangs its club banner at the Upsala Public Library. There is always a program going on at the Upsala Public Library! Artists, authors, speakers and programs for kids are scheduled throughout the month, and passive or do-it-yourself programs are also available. Try your hand at a craft project or Guess The Shredded Book. The first week of both January and February 2017, you'll find a shredded book in a large plastic jar at the library. Upsala celebrates Heritage Days the second week of August with a community festival, music concerts and a medallion hunt. This year the five daily clues led seekers on a merry chase through the city park to the flower urns along Main Street, to the Community Center and, finally, to GRRL~Upsala.
