Each November, the Snappy Elmdalers 4H Club hangs its club banner at the Upsala Public Library. This year’s banner highlights the theme, “Believe In Yourself.”  The members designed and crafted the banner. There is always a program going on at the Upsala Public Library! Artists, authors, speakers and programs for kids are scheduled throughout the month, and passive or do-it-yourself programs are also available. Try your hand at a craft project or Guess The Shredded Book. The first week of both January and February 2017, you'll find a shredded book in a large plastic jar at the library. The second season of Once Upon a Reader, a statewide one-book program, will feature Ten Pigs: An Epic Bath Adventure. The book is written and illustrated by Minnesota resident Derek Anderson. Upsala area kids are invited to visit the Storywalk that will be erected on the front lawn of Upsala Area Schools from Tuesday, Sept. 6 through Friday, Sept. 9. GRRL - Upsala's Summer Reading Program is still in full swing! There is still time to start as a baby, a toddler, a tween or a teen! GRRL - Upsala draws for prizes weekly and has a number of ongoing contests which patrons can enter.  The Summer Reading Program officially ends on Saturday, Aug. 13!

In a hard thought battle on Saturday Jan. 9, three members of the GRRL-Upsala Trivia Team answered their way to victory in GRRL's online trivia contest. Team members Mike and Debbie Disher and Nancy Reesemann researched questions finding answers through Google searches and GRRL databases. The team were excited about answering and expect to return next year when the contest will be bigger and even better.
"What a cool banner!" So said patrons of the Upsala Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 31, when members of the Snappy Elmdalers 4-H Club hung their award-winning banner at the library so area residents could enjoy their work. This banner, the fifth that has hung at GRRL - Upsala, captured Grand Champion at the Morrison County Fair and won one of only three Purple Ribbons awarded at the Minnesota State Fair. Every other year, Upsala Public Library hosts a makerspace program called Holiday Hangups. This year, in the first fall session, 40 kids had a blast crafting fall-themed windsocks. A winter session is also planned for December.
