If you're in need of copies, whether in color or black and white, the Eagle Bend Public Library is here to help. We recently acquired a new color copy machine. Copies can be made in Color for .50 or Black/White for .10. The machine includes a USB drive, so copies can be scanned and added or printed from the drive. Any child from birth to age 5 can sign up for the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at the Eagle Bend Public Library. The child will receive a book bag and a tracking record. At every 20 books read, the librarian will stamp their record book and give them a sticker. At every 100 books they can look in the treasure chest for a prize. The Eagle Bend Public Library celebrated reading with our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program on Saturday, Sept. 26. Awards were given to our five kindergarten children who have completed their 1000 books. Eagle Bend's 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program is funded by the Eagle Bend Friends of the Library. The Eagle Bend Public Library held a two-day music camp as part of the Summer Reading Program, Read to the Rhythm. Children at the music camp each made various musical instruments and talked about how different materials made different sounds. On the second day of the camp, Library Assistant Joseph LaVoie played the keyboard as the kids played along with the musical instruments they made. Forty-three children were shaking and drumming to the music of "The Wheels on the Bus" and "Let it go."

The Eagle Bend Public Library has received a new makeover, thanks to Friends and local volunteers who gave the library a new look with a fresh coat of paint. The City of Eagle Bend also provided funds to update the Internet station work area and for more shelving displays for the magazines and books on CD. We now have a quiet section in the library for our ongoing "Friends" book sale, and a place to just sit and read the newspapers. With these changes we were also able to expand our books on CD...

The Eagle Bend Public Library had a fun storytime about Snow on Saturday, Jan. 10. We read books about snow, did a flannel board about an old lady who swallowed some snow, and then each child painted a snowman on a snow globe. Santa surprised the children at Eagle Bend Public Library's Storytime. He read them the story "Twas the Night Before Christmas." The children each had a chance to sit on Santa's lap, tell him what they wanted for Christmas, and get a goodie bag.

The Eagle Bend Public Library held its annual 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Celebration on Sept. 25. Robert the Magician entertained everyone with a performance of Bug, Bugs, Bugs. He did various magic tricks including making a dove appear from a scarf. We had eight participants reach the 1000 books mark and six of them are now in kindergarten. Smokey the Bear visited the Eagle Bend Public Library for a special storytime in July. DNR officer Jason read the the kids a story about Smokey the Bear and fire safety. They discussed all the "do's and don'ts" for fire safety. He gave each of the children a Smokey the Bear book and book marker. This program was provided by the Eagle Bend Friends of the Library.
