Bargains abound at The Delano Friends of the Library annual Book Sale. Most hardcovers sell for $.50 and paperbacks for $.25. The selection of gently used books is amazing. There is always something for everyone, including fiction, non-fiction and children's, all well organized by genre for your browsing enjoyment. Escape the winter blues and join us at the Delano Library for a cozy quilt display during the month of February. The 30 quilts hanging all over the library highlight the creativity and artistry of each individual quilter. This handcrafted exhibit features both hand and machine quilting. The exquisite 3' x 3' quilt pictured titled Valentine's Day was machine stitched by Natalie Palmer in approximately 10 hours. The library was one of many stops to celebrate an "Old Fashioned" Christmas in Delano on Saturday, December 4th. Activities at the library included making decorative felt holiday ornaments to hang on the library tree, viewing the youth art show and enjoying refreshments. The highlight of the day was a History of Carols concert by Pages of Music, which featured music and stories of the season. Tea with newly published author Carla Johnson was a dress up affair at the Delano Library on Saturday Oct. 9. The library was decked out in purple and pink, the prominent colors in Johnson’s book, Teatime Tillie, a rhyming story about a mouse who loves to entertain her friends with tea. Participants learned about table manners, made placemats showing the proper table settings, and prepared tea sandwiches. Tea, lemonade and scones were also served. Delano Public Library staff and patrons are enjoying the benefits of a recent remodel that added an estimated 300 sq. ft. of space. The Delano library building used to be a bank. When it was converted to a library the bank maintained a drive-through business on one corner. Earlier this year, the bank ended services at the library location and offered its space to the library.
