Cold Spring Public Library is celebrating Banned Books Week (Sept. 21-27) with a guessing game. The prize is a banned book for teens and kids. At the library, find the Banned Books display and guess the title based on the cover. Learn the reason why the books were controversial. We think some of these titles may surprise you. Cold Spring Public Library hosts the annual Friends book sale during Hometown Pride Days. The Friends of the Cold Spring Library will sell donated books, DVDs, and audiobooks on CD on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. The times are Thursday, July 24, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.; Friday, July 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; and Saturday, July 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 .pm. Arrive early for the best selection. Cold Spring Public Library is giving away lots of prizes this summer! We have weekly prizes to give away to children and teens registered for the Summer Reading Program, which begins June 9. When you register at the library, fill out a drawing slip with your name. Children can win a Kindle, so bring in your reading record no later than Aug. 16. Teens can win an iTunes gift card and a Kindle, too. Thanks go to the Cold Spring Friends of the Library for donating these fabulous prizes.

Cold Spring Public Library has a new Teen Zone, thanks to the Cold Spring Friends of the Library and Phyllis Humbert. Lounge in one of two comfy bean bag chairs, which sit on a colorful rug. Perch on a stool next to the tall cafe table. This new space is perfect for studying or meeting friends. The summer anime club will meet here beginning June 10. And don't miss the Teen Zone Grand Opening with music by Take The Hint on June 12.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Cold Spring Public Library presents Gwen Rosha Anderson, author of My Three Lumps, on Thursday, Oct.24 at 6:30 p.m. Listen to Anderson’s inspirational story as she talks about surviving cancer and going through a divorce both at the age of 28. Cold Spring Public Library offers amazing prizes for the Summer Reading Program this summer. Starting June 10, kids of all ages are eligible to join the Summer Reading Program. We even have prizes for babies. Ages 3 through 12 have the chance to win a Kindle Fire. We also have movie tickets, books, and gift certificates from local businesses. Renewing cardholder Karla Smetana from Cold Spring was the grand prize winner in Great River Regional Library's National Library Card Sign-Up month promotion and received an Apple iPad and cover.
