The final section of Becker Public Library's Dewey Decimal Mural project is set to begin Feb 1, 2016. With the help of local artist Alison Love Unzelman, the library is gearing up to start work on the final section of the collaborative mural project displayed in the library. With so little snow on the ground, the Becker staff decided to bring the snow inside. During the last storytime of the year, preschoolers enjoyed playing in the snow without all the bulk of winter clothes and wet mittens. The snow was made with baking soda and water mixed into a nice consistency that allows balls to be made. (Some recipes use hair conditioner.) Award-winning author William Kent Krueger will talk about his Cork O'Connor mystery series at the Becker Public Library on Monday, Nov. 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. Krueger is the winner of four Minnesota Book Awards, two Anthony Awards for Best Novel, and an Edgar Award. He is a Minnesota author and his books are set in Minnesota's north woods. This event is for teens and adults. No registration is required. This event is paid for by funds from the Minnesota Book Awards.
About 60 kids, parents and caregivers attended the Becker Public Library's annual preschool Halloween party. The event started out with Halloween songs and stories. We had a fellow library user perform some of his magic tricks for the youngsters, and then the rest of the time was filled with fun activities. Dates are Wednesday-Saturday, Oct. 7-10. The book sale will be open during the library's open hours. Gently used books and media are needed. Bring them to the library anytime the library is open.
