The Becker library has many holiday inspired craft programs, for school-aged kids, teens and adults, over the next few weeks.  Be sure to check out the Event Calendar at www.griver.org to sign up so you don't miss the opportunity to participate! November is Alzheimer Awareness month. Join Tami Kolbinger in an informal, 45 minute presentation at the Becker Public Library that includes information on dementia, concentrating on communication and some of the "do's and don'ts" in dealing with people with dementia. Bill Jamerson will present his "It's Daylight in the Swamps" program on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3:00 p.m. This program will journey back to the days of sawyers, skidders and swampers. True stories, tall tales, along with authentic songs to create a program that entertains and informs. The Friends of the Becker Library are gearing up for their October book sale. Donations of books and media are now being accepted. Books may be gently used, but will not be accepted if dirty, smelly or moldy. Encyclopedias, textbooks and medical books will not be accepted.  The Friends of the Becker Library is a non-profit organization that helps raise funds, promote library programs and raise awareness of the Becker Library. On June 28, Becker Public Library hosted its first Makerspace program. The program included the use of Snap Circuits. The circuits were a hit and the library was all a buzz! Snap Circuits make learning electronics easy and fun! Just follow the manual and build exciting projects, such as FM radios, digital voice recorders, AM radios, burglar alarms, doorbells, and much more. Professor Marvel, aka Robert Halbrook, stunned and amazed about 200 kids and adults during his "Magic of the Olympics: A Summer Reading Celebration" program held at the Becker Community Center on June 14. Becker Public Library will be offering new programs this summer. Family storytimes will be offered on one Saturday and one Thursday of each month this summer. The first Saturday Family Storytime will be June 11 at 10:30 a.m. The first Thursday Family Storytime will be June 23 at 6:30 p.m. Family Storytime includes books, songs, rhymes, movement and more.
