A new look is coming to Albany Library! The library will be getting new carpet, paint, shelves and checkout desk. The library will be closed the week of Aug. 20 - 25 to get everything moved and have the carpet installed. The desk will be moved out to make more room for staff and volunteers to work, and it will be remodeled. Local Boy Scout Tom Adelmann is raising money for additional shelves in the children's area. It is time for the annual Albany Friends of the Library Book Sale. The sale will be Tuesday, June 12, 12 noon to 8 p.m.; Wednesday, June 13, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Thursday, June 14, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Be sure to stop in, check out the excellent display of gently used books, and take some home with you. Balloons fill the desk at the Albany Library as numbers for this year's Summer Reading Program are up, up, up. The Albany staff has been amazed and delighted by this year's turnout. Kids have been coming in each week to play Who Am I? and get their names in the drawing for a DQ certificate and turn in their clocks for the weekly drawing. The Friends of the Albany Library held another successful book sale in June. Over $800 was raised to benefit the Albany Library. In the past the Friends have contributed to author visits and story times and have provided prizes for the Summer and Winter Reading Programs. They have also purchased items for the library such as bulletin boards and storage bins. Summer Hours at Albany Public Library will start Tuesday, May 31 and run through Saturday, Sept. 3. The new schedule will be: Monday 12 - 8 Tuesday 12 - 8 Wednesday 10 - 6 Thursday 10 - 6 Friday 12 - 5 Saturday 10 - 1 The library reduced its open hours by one hour during the school year. By doing so, it is now able to provide an additional one hour Monday night, one hour Wednesday night and two hours Thursday morning during its busy summer reading time.
Cindy Bruggenthies became the new Branch Manager of the Albany Public Library in June. She began working for Great River Regional Library 15 years ago when she was hired to manage the Grey Eagle branch. In between there was a period of subbing and working as the Swanville branch assistant. The management hiatus was her choice. It gave Cindy the time she needed for home-schooling. Recent promotions of staff to administrative positions have created openings for Branch Managers at the Albany and Royalton libraries. Two members of the Great River Regional Library (GRRL) staff have been named to those positions. Michelle Goebel has been named the new Branch Manager of the Albany Public Library, and Linda Mueller has been named the new Branch Manager of the Royalton Public Library.
